Fellowship News from September 2004

Punch – Yum!

Thanks so much to all who have poured punch, provided crunchies ‘n chewies, chips and cake, cloths and cleanups at Punch on the Lawn during our summer months.  You’ve been great to provide some refreshments for us before leaving for home (trips, lunch out, other activities).  And, all have enjoyed the fellowship in meeting visitors, new members and fellow members back from interesting vacations.

September 5 will be Pot Luck – the chance for all our great St. Francis cooks to share their favorite foods and desserts with each other.  Who knows?  Some recipes might get swapped at some tables.  Surely everyone agrees that food is good for you – and St. Francis’ pot lucks supply some of the best!

Fellowship News from May 2004

It seems that Potluck Sundays show off our great cooks continuing to be even better with every fall, winter and spring meals after church on “First Sundays”.  Enough food for all, very few leftovers and the fellowship grows each month, especially among our newer members (who are volunteering already to help wherever they are needed).  Need I say the decorations were very colorful and “gigantic” (loaned to Missy from the Senior Center).  The Hughes and the Hoyles were our gracious hosts assisted by the Hughes friend, “Dancing Sam,” who is also some dishwasher!  Thanks to all who have helped in any way from September through May!!

June 6 begins our “Punch on the Lawn” summer fellowship when we will honor our high school and college graduates.  Please be sure to notify the office if you have a graduate so he/she may be honored that day.  Hosts are listed elsewhere for June and July.  Thanks again to our great church family from the Fellowship Committee.

Fellowship News from April 2004

The April event gave us the opportunity to both thank and extend warm goodbyes to Dr. Bond who had led us through a 3 day ending of our Lenten Study of six weeks.  If you could not attend these evenings (where Dee,+ and different parish members brought us viewpoints from the book “The Return of the Prodigal Son” by Henri Nouwen, based on the painting by Rembrandt), the final three days are unforgettable for many of us.  The food was plentiful and the decorations were of Spring arriving, and we thank our very gracious hosts the MacIntoshes and the McKinneys.  We also thank all who gave clean-up help from September through May.  This May 2 will end the potlucks until September 5.  Thanks to everyone who make the potlucks possible.  Punch on the Lawn starts June 6.

Fellowship News from March 2004

What a delight to have the Girl Scout troops attend church with us and especially for providing the anthem for the service preceding the Pot Luck.  Several Scouts and their parents stayed to eat.  Cookie boxes graced the main serving table but we didn’t see any extras for sale – which shows all the girls had had good sales earlier.  The cookies are always yummie!  There was certainly a differences in uniforms (40 years perhaps) between the leaders  (Hilda Wilson’s was on a hanger, not on her – need I say more?), the colors, pins and shoulder bands.  More young girls should sign up; the training is still great.  Our young men in Scouting are equally trained very well.  Thanks to Liz & James Segers, Denise Hempstead, Gerry Roberts, Hilda Wilson, and to those who brought the tasty food, desserts, etc.

The Second Floor House Blessing in the Rectory was held on March 7 following the 8:00 worship service.  Mary Gregory was the hostess.  The Main Floor House Blessing was on March 21 following the 11:00 worship service.  The Gordon Scotts and Teri Chandler were our hosts.

Fellowship News from February 2004

Pot Luck – February 1! Or should we say, “The Event to Come!” i.e. THE NFL SUPERBOWL with a CAROLINA team as one of the teams to play on Sunday, February 1, 2004.  We know you could guess by the great decorations for our usual “first Sunday of the Month Pot Luck” what was to happen later that day.  Despite the many gatherings later on at game time, we had a full crowd to enjoy the good and varied lunch time meal.  And we did not LOSE that game!  The time just ran out; the referee’s watch was wrong; the Patriots were in possession; if played in N.C. it would have been on the Panthers’ home field; what else can we say?  NEXT YEAR!  Paul and Paula McIntosh, Bud and Anita Quinley were our gracious hosts, and we also thank very much those of you volunteers who stay and help the cleanup move faster.  The committee feels we are off to a really good start this year.

There was no Coffee Hour February 15 due to the reception later in the day for Dee.  The Parish Hall was beyond description and the foods given were of great amounts and varieties.

Fellowship News from January 2004

By Hilda Wilson

The New Year’s Potluck on January 4 had us off to a successful start with the Jim King Family, Susan Keith and Beverly Wellborn as our gracious hosts.  All attending were well fed; the decorations were crčches and SWEEPS cards naming the ministry opportunities within our Church.  The Annual Meeting followed, chaired by Rob Bole, Senior Warden.  Blessings before and after the activities were given by our new priest, Dee.

Coffee Hour on the 18th looked like perhaps few attendees, but the good and plenteous foods went home in people’s “tums” and not in leftover cartons!  Our hosts were Josephine and Roscoe Conn, Rebecca Melton and Hilda Wilson.  Josephine had a beautiful centerpiece of crystal and gold angels and a crystal petal flower centered with a large candle.  We thank all who helped in January.

Working together as hosts brings a special fellowship to those who perhaps never experience a way to better know other members of our body of worship. If you haven’t signed up, please do – you will be rewarded in many ways.  Plan to attend the potluck on February 1 (you could use our new cookbook!) with the McIntoshs and Quinleys as hosts.  And ENJOY!
