Grace Acres, the Men’s Shelter

This is the third installment of articles to share information regarding one of St. Francis’ community outreach programs, The Grace of God Rescue Mission.  This month’s article  pertains to the men’s shelter, Grace Acres, located in Six Points, between Ellenboro and Cliffside.  The facility provides housing for men with sleeping quarters, a kitchen, meeting room, and shower facilities.  It not only provides a place to stay, but it offers three meals a day.  Transportation to and from work,  to interviews, and doctor appointments are provided as well.  Some residents have gone into the ministry, some have started their own small businesses, and several have gone back to school to get their GEDs.

In May’s Mission newsletter, it was stated that a disabled gentleman that was a resident has been able to buy a mobile home and put in a septic tank.  He is still in need of kitchen cabinets, a stove and outside electric box and wiring to be able to move in.  He and others like him are trying so hard to make it on their own in very difficult times.  If you can help, please call the Rescue Mission at 828-245-9141.  Also, it is wonderful to know that the 15 passenger van the mission was able to obtain has been used this past month to pick up people from Spindale for the evening meal who do not have a way there. Numbers for the evening meal during the month of May averaged 100 per night.  Thank you to any and all who are making the effort to provide items that have been listed in previous articles.  They are in much need of food for these meals.  Prices continue to rise and the number of those in need do, also.  If you are not able to deliver your items, please call me, Linda Jeanne Harrill at 828-286-2847, and I will arrange to do it for you.  Perhaps you have temporary small tasks that need to be done.  Every job helps someone get back on his feet.

            Needs for this month

Canned foods (gallons of peas, carrots, sweet

                                                potatoes, etc.)

                        Large and small envelopes

                        Coffee, sugar

                        Cleaning supplies

                        Donations can be made through

Prayer Requests
There are blue cards for requesting prayers in the pew racks and in the back of the church.  There is a large blue box in the back of the church in which you can place your requests for prayer.  These requests are picked up by the Daughters of the King and will be included in their prayers for a month.  If you wish, they will also be added to the Prayers of the People read each Sunday.
