WHAT IS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY?

Habitat For Humanity is an international, ecumenical Christian, non-governmental, non-profit organization devoted to building “simple, decent, and affordable” housing.  Homes are built using volunteer labor and are sold at no profit.

WHAT IS A POUNDING?    A pounding is a custom dating back to Quaker founding days.  When a couple moved into the neighborhood, a welcome wagon type or get together would be called where all the neighbors would bring a pound of sugar, flour, or whatever, to help stock up the new neighbors cupboard.  This is an old-fashioned way to help someone by stocking their pantry with non-perishable items.

You can give something you have extra.  For instance, if you have 3 cans of green beans, you could give 1 can!!!  Paper products and light bulbs are always welcomed.

The Episcopal Church Women are sponsoring a pounding for Habitat for Humanity.  Ingathering will begin on Sunday, January 31, and will end on Sunday, February 14.  Items may be placed in the designated bags and boxes in the narthex of the church and in the parish house.  Perhaps, you wish to bring your items on February 7th, Potluck Sunday.

The collected items will be divided between the two homes that were dedicated near Christmas time.  You might recall, they are built one beside the other, and the Faithworks House was named House of Ruth.  This is the first home named after a women of the Bible.  Won’t you join the ECW in the age-old custom of welcoming?

 Worship Volunteers

By now everyone who has been identified as being interested in taking part in our worship at St. Francis should have received a list of every who is signed up to do the same job.  If you signed up to usher, you should have a list of ushers.  If you signed up to read, you should have a list of readers.  These lists were sent by email to everyone we have an email address for and send regular mail to those without email addresses.  If you wanted to be usher, greeter, reader, presenter of the elements, Chalicist and you did not get a list, please contact the Parish Office and let the Parish Administrator know that you did not get a particular list.  We will make sure that you are on the list for that job and then get a list to you.
