Daughters of the King

Who Are We?

The Daughters of the King (DOK) is an order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, churches in communion with it, or churches in the Historic Episcopate.  Our Anglican tradition includes Episcopal oversight, Holy Scripture containing all things necessary for salvation, recognition of the gift of the Holy Spirit in Baptism, the real presence of our Lord in the Holy Eucharist and worship according to The Book of Common Prayer.

Members take a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service.  By reaffirmation of the promises made at Baptism and Confirmation, a Daughter pledges herself to a life-long program of prayer, service and evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ's Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish.

Vision Statement

As Daughters of the King, we are women of courage who have made a commitment to serve God our King.  We wear crosses as an outward and visible sign that we cannot live a day without Christ in our lives.  We see our Order as a community nurturing women, accepting all people, bridging differences and cherishing traditions.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, our vision is to encourage and enable all to be reflections of God's love, reaching out through prayer, service and evangelism to spread His Kingdom.

Mission Statement

The Mission of this order is the extension of Christ's Kingdom through Prayer, Service and Evangelism.

To Become a Member

The DOK Phoebe Chapter at St. Francis reminds all women of the meeting with members of St. Helena Chapter in Linville on Saturday, May 15th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM .  All members and those who are interested in being trained for membership are encouraged to attend this "time of sharing" of ideas.  The Phoebe Chapter training will be this summer, possibly during the Sunday School hour.  If you are interested in becoming a member and have not yet been contacted by a DOK member, please call the church office.

January 2006

We have faithfully been meeting every third Saturday of the month for fellowship and devotion.  The chapter has now installed their last two members.  St. Francis, Phoebe Chapter of DOK is at a total of 18 daughters.  2006 plans involve parish involvement via several programs in the works.  We ask that the people of St. Francis lift us up in prayer through the year.

Welcome New Daughters

Installation for seven new Daughters of the King was held during the October 3, 2004 11:00 worship service by Pam Runyan, WNC representative of the main headquarters in Woodstock, GA.  Eleven weeks of training have enabled these women to master the responsibilities they have assumed in becoming Daughters within our congregation – and in our community- when they recognize certain needs and/or service they might give.  Daughters are not just in Rutherford County.  We have  chapters (63) in North America, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Africa, and Japan, within the Episcopal, Lutheran, Anglican and Roman Catholic congregations.

Our new Daughters are the Rev. Dee Ann de Montmollin, Terry Chandler, Miriam Dixon, Mary Gregory, Susan Keith, Anita Quinley, Kay Taylor.  Christine Hoyle and Judy Scott will be installed by year’s end.  Welcoming all of them are Daughters Reba Beasley, Mary Brown, Ann Crummie, Betty Dickey, Denise Hempstead, Kitty Lamb, Paula McIntosh, Beverly McKinney, Sandra Middleton and Hilda Wilson.

A prayer Breakfast is planned for Saturday October 30, 8:00 a.m., for future planning and Christian Fellowship.  This chapter has been blessed with 19 very active members, and possibly the most growth (9) of any chapter within the diocese this year.

Any prayers you may need should be called to Susan Keith in the Parish Office (9 am to 1 pm Mon-Fri).

Respectfully submitted, Hilda Wilson

On Saturday, May 15, nine of us journeyed to Valle Crucis to meet and fellowship with the St. Helena chapter in that area.  Peggy Irving, from that chapter, met with some of us soon after Easter and invited our Phoebe chapter to meet with them for fellowship and a discussion of chapter aims and duties.  The time together included a study time which our Dee led, after which she celebrated Holy Communion with all of us.  Prospective members from St. Francis went with present members.  We were served a good and filling lunch and departed at 2:00 p.m. to come back through our beautified and colorful mountains.  Those attending were Denise Hempstead, Beverly McKinney, Betty Dickey, Hilda Wilson, Susan Keith, Miriam Dixon, Terry Chandler, Anita Quinley, and Rev. Dee Ann de Montmollin.  The Phoebe chapter will grow to 17 active members by September.  Classes will start following the 11 am. service on June 13.  Please check your mail for further notices before June 13.
